Human Development and Familiy Studies

That is what I will be graduating in a year from now. After not getting into nursing school, I began to look at many different options. After running degree audit reports (DARS) on 10-15 different kinds of majors I was really frustrated. Nothing seemed like a good fit and I still had a long ways to go to get any kind of degree.

So I looked again. I feel like it was a prompting from the Lord. As I scrolled through the whole list of majors again the Human Development and Family Studies link caught my eye. I hadn't seen it in any of the 15 previous times of scrolling through the list but I am glad I looked again. After running the report I was only 9 classes away! I couldn't believe it, I was much closer then I thought and I could graduate by next year.

So then I looked at what I could do with this degree and it hit me, a Child Life Specialist! They are all over Primary Children's Hospital! I would still be able to work with children, be in the medical field, and help those in need. It takes a little extra work, because you have to get a certificate after the degree but it is only 2 more classes and some clinicals. That I can definitely do after I graduate in May.

I am all signed up for classes for this summer and fall. Leaving me only 3 classes to take in the spring and graduate in May. I am still going to apply to the UVU nursing program just to have an option but I am feeling very good about this path.

I feel like the Lord is pushing me toward the path that He knows is best for me, so I am trying to follow that path. I am grateful for the love that Heavenly Father has for me and I am trying my best to follow His will.

So here it goes, a completely new pathway of life... it'll be interesting to see what the next few months brings!

1st Lesson is Complete!!

I succeed and gave my first every church lesson. I didn't even pass out! :) I did get very nervous and the heart rate did go up (yes I check because I am weird like that). But it was a success. It was really lucky that we had a lot of announcements and items we had to complete before the lesson began because my lesson wasn't as long as I thought it was. I thought the girls would participate a lot more then the did but I know for next time and can make it a lot longer. I am glad it is over and I am glad that I did it, it was a good experience and I hope the YW learned something. If not I at least learned a lot :)

Freaking Out!!

I have to teach my first Young Women's Lesson on Sunday and I am freaking out. Most people are really going to roll their eyes at this statement but they don't know me very well. I HATE being in front of people, it absolutely terrifies me! I have been looking at this lesson for over a week now and I honestly have no idea what I am doing! I am hoping and praying that the Lord will help me get through this first lesson and my very first teaching experience. The last couple of days has been a serious emotional roller coaster and I am sure that having my emotions and thoughts all over the place is not helping my nerves on planning this lesson. But I am learning to rely 100% on the Lord, so that is what I am trying to do with this lesson. Plus searching a lot of sites, reading lots of scripture, saying many prayers, and reading/re-reading the lesson manual... Hopefully that will be enough! Wish me luck, I am seriously going to need all the help I can get!!!

Heart Break and Conference

So April Fools has become one of my least favorite days. I found out on April Fools Day that I didn't get into the U of U Nursing school... again. I think it has to be a cruel joke by the U to send out the decisions on April Fools Day but that is what happened.

I have been extremely heart broken. I've wanted to be a nurse as long as I can remember, so to not get into nursing school again has broken my heart. I thought for sure I was going to get in this year, I have been praying, fasting, having others pray for me. I've pretty much done everything I could absolutely do to get in, and I feel like I have failed.

Then came General Conference and it couldn't have come at a better time. I am in a weird position right now because I don't know what I am going to do with my future, so I decided to really use the promise of conference and listen to see what the Lord had to tell me. It definitely worked.

I didn't get an amazing revelation or anything but I definitely had a comforting feeling and know that the Lord had me in mind in several of the conference talks. I still don't know what I am going to do with my future and I still don't know why I am going through this but there was a great quote from Elder Christofferson. He said speaking of the Lord, "I am the gardener and I know what I want you to be." This hit me like a ton of bricks. The Lord is the gardener and He knows what He wants me to be.

I am have to put one hundred percent of my faith in that the Lord knows me and He knows what he wants me to be. He is trying to direct my life into the direction it is supposed to be going in. I have the faith that He is giving me the direction in life that will give me the best and happiest future.

I have a lot of things to work out and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't really sad and now very scared but I know that the Lord loves me and is going to help me through this difficult time in life. So here life goes, possibly in a totally new direction. Wish me luck!
